Finding Help with Immigration Matters
Beware of notario fraud. In many Latin American countries, a "notario" is an attorney - in the United States, they are not. "Abogado" is the Spanish word for an attorney in the U.S. Only a licensed attorney or DOJ-accredited representative can provide immigration legal advice.
Act promptly. Immigration cases often have strict deadlines. If you receive a notice to appear or any document from immigration authorities, seek legal help as soon as possible.
Keep copies of everything. Make copies of all documents you submit and any notices you receive. Store originals in a safe place.
The Law Library is here to help. Our staff can help you locate immigration legal resources, court forms, and referrals. Visit us or see our contact page for hours and location.
