Helpful Tips for Eviction Cases
Act quickly. Eviction cases move on a very short timeline. Missing a deadline can result in a default judgment against you.
Know your rights. California law provides specific protections for tenants, including just-cause eviction requirements and rent increase caps under the 2019 Tenant Protection Act (AB 1482). Check whether these protections apply to your situation.
Check local ordinances. Several cities in Santa Barbara County have their own tenant protection or rent stabilization ordinances that may provide additional protections beyond state law.
